About Us

The Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research is a multidisciplinary leader in medicinal cannabis research. The Centre is led by the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

This initiative leverages McMaster University’s world-renowned expertise in health research and evidence-based medicine to create a hub for evidence-based data and innovative research.

The Centre is a partnership between McMaster University, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, the Peter Boris Centre for Addictions Research and the Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine.

Mission

The Michael G. DeGroote Centre for Medicinal Cannabis Research leverages the highest standards of evidence-based research methodology to collectively advance the understanding of medicinal cannabis. We do this through:

  • Curating the collective body of knowledge on medicinal cannabis.
  • Advancing scientific discovery through innovative research projects.
  • Creating a network of researchers, clinicians, industry professionals and patients devoted to increasing the clinical understanding of cannabis, with a focus on its therapeutic potential for chronic pain as well as unintended consequences of its use.

An evidence-based understanding for medicinal cannabis, encompassing both its potential therapeutic effects and associated risks across the diverse clinical and research communities.
