These sessions are for healthcare providers to have access to the most current research and guidance regarding the use of medical cannabis and cannabis use in general. This one-credit-per-hour Group-Learning program meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the McMaster University Continuing Professional Development Program for up to 4.0 Mainpro+ credits. In addition, the curriculum has been accredited for four continuing education hours by the Ontario Psychological Association.

Session #2 – 11:00 am – 12:00 pmState of the Evidence on Medical CannabisPresenter: Dr. Jason Busse This session will allow learners to describe and critically appraise the moderate to high certainty evidence of cannabis use for various medical conditions. |
Session #3 – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pmRisks and Harms from CannabisPresenter: Dr. James MacKillop This session will explain the evidence to inform both short and long-term harms associated with use of medical cannabis – including overall prevalence, psychiatric events, dependence and withdrawal syndrome, and serious events leading to discontinuation. |
Session #4 – 3:00 pm – 4:00 pmPractical Considerations for Treating Chronic Pain with Medical CannabisPresenters: Dr. Ramesh Zacharias and Dr. Mahmoud Siyam This session will describe the practical applications of cannabis for medical purposes with specific examples drawn from the area of chronic pain, including an examination of drug interactions. |
